This I drew for Jordyn F. Bochon's birthday. Jordyn had mentioned to me she wanted to visit Sutton Hoo, so I took one of her characters there instead. Jordyn also mentioned she doesn't like to draw thought bubbles and I kind of agree, it's a strange thing, to show thought.

A while ago Timothy Winchester asked me to draw a Wizard for his Wizard Week. Way past the deadline, I drew one. There's a nod here to Vaughn Bode and his Cheech Wizard. I love the way Vaughn looks at story telling and develops his worlds.

Here's a thing. Whilst at TCAF I didn't really check the table plan, so had no idea that a lot of fine folks were gonna be there and subsequently missed out on some good books and or comic chit chat. It was only by chance, in the dying minutes of the festival that I saw Brandon Graham was tabling there. I'm a big fan of Brandon's work and I'm sure you are too. I enjoy his drawing style, his word play and his excellent story telling. So I was really very happy when he pulled a page from his sketch book to give me. I protested, as the OCD in me didn't like the idea of that page being away from it's friends, but it's safe in it's new home now anyways.

You can buy Brandon's comics in all good comic shops, but did you know you can also buy his original art too?

TCAF Report

So here's my TCAF report. I'll keep it short because I'm sure you've read plenty already.

I had an ace time and met many many lovely people. A lot of those people I already knew on the internet, but now I know them in real life. Shall I list all those people? No, it'd be never ending; like the shout-outs on an early nineties hip-hop album. It was all the cool kids, they're all brilliant and I don't need to provide links to their work because you read it already. But let me tell you this, they are all excellent fun people. Who'd have thought it eh?

Here's a thing though. TCAF felt very special; exciting. I'm thinking this was not only because of all the superb artists, but because Christopher Butcher and his army of helpers who clearly worked their socks off to make sure it was great.

One week after the event and I'm still very enthused about making comics. I'm always enthused about making comics, but you know, now even more so. I hope they'll have me back next year.

I sold out all my copies of The Accidental Salad that I took, but don't worry I've just received some more and I'll be selling them at The Alt Press Fair on the 28th. And they should be in the shops real soon too.

Sorry, that's not much a report more a declaration of fun times. If you'd like links to all the people I met, photo's of the great haul of comics I picked up and all that, just shout.

So, I went to TCAF, and more on that later. But let me first share this with you. I was occasionally sharing the Blank Shelf table with the german artist Mawil. Do you know Mawil's books? I think they're great. I'd loved We Can Still Be Friends and Sparky O’Hare, so was eager to get my hands on his new translations Home and Away and The Band. Which I stowed away carefully to read on the plane home. What fun I had when I finally did. Two great things...

look I've noticed a few terrible errors in my latest comics!

I've always been fairly self critical when it comes to my drawing. This is healthy I think. Also, I draw without the company of fellow artists, cept for those here on the internet, so I rarely get feedback from my peers. Oh I get nice comments, and I love the nice comments, but as much as they keep me drawing they don't help me improve my drawing. I know the internet is a funny old place and we don't always know each other that well and want to be nice. But I could benefit from a little constructive criticism once in a while. I've bent the ear of a few artists in the pub asking for a bit of feedback, but I wouldn't mind it here on the internet too.

The mistakes above arn't really the things I'm worrying about, they're just me getting slack. What I need to know if I'm on the right track with is structure, pace, technique and all that gubbins, If you know where I'm going wrong, or how I could improve, artists I could look at etc, please feel free to tell me.
